SPOILERS AHEAD!
I was never a big reader. Well that's a lie. I was a big reader up until sixth grade. That's when I moved to a different county and started a new. It was a big and traumatic change for 12 year old me. I didn't know anyone and it was hard to make friends. But that is not the point of this post.
Flash forward about two years and you've got 14 year old Morgan. Brand new semester and brand new mind set. I went out to Target one night with my dad and I ended up in front of so many books. I found one that looked really interesting. I knew that I had to get it. Wanna know what that book was? Well it was Shadow Falls: The Beginning by C.C. Hunter of course!
No the actual first book was not called The Beginning. That's just what the book that had both the first and second book in it is called. Make sense? Probably not.
I started reading the next day, which so happened to be Wednesday of my third week of eighth grade. Boy did I get in trouble! I was so interested and engulfed in this book that the teacher literally had to take it away from because I wouldn't stop reading it. Who would of thought an English teacher would do that? NOT ME!
Well on to the next day. I'm a good half way through the book when I get to my favorite part, Lucas and Kylie by the creek, when everything changes. I could not put the book down for the rest of the day. I read eleven hours straight that day. From 2:30 p.m to 1:35 a.m. I read on the bus home, when I went to the bathroom, and while I ate dinner. No sleep for me!
Now on to the review!
I will start with a short summary of the overall series and then get into the nitty-gritty. Basically, it is about 16-year old Kylie Galen being sent to a camp for trouble teens, which the camp is called Shadow Falls, hints the name. Once she arrives, she soon realizes that it is no ordinary camp, but a camp for the supernatural. And among all these supernatural beings, Kylie is an outcast. Wanna know why? Of course you do. No one knows what she is. She shows signs of being a vampire, a werewolf, a fae, and even a witch. If I recall correctly she may have even had a shape-shifter trait too... but don't quote me on that.
Did I mention she can also see her dead father? Which it is not revealed that it is her actual father until later on. Basically when her mother and her are on better terms. Warms my heart! How about yours?
So you've got the main, gifted, female protagonist, now all you need is a handsome boy to call it young adult novel ;) In this case, you need two. The down to earth Derek and the hot and steamy Lucas *fans myself dramatically*. Sit down and choose your team because it's way better than Edward and Bella, sorry Twilight. And sorry for you guys on #teamDerek, I'm all Lucas!
Now I don't remember which book had what really. All I remember is what happened. So bare with me on this. It is revealed that Kylie is actually a Chameleon. Which is a supernatural species that can change what they are in a way. They can show and do what all the other species can do. I.E. drink blood, run really fast, cast a spell, and even see ghosts. This is a big problem for the romantic aspect of her life. Since she is not just a werewolf she can not be with Lucas. It is forbidden by his pack. But then there is sweet Derek who doesn't mind what she really is, but too bad it doesn't work out. And that's a good gist of what the books are about in a few words and leaving a little to the imagination.
Time for the Review!
In my unprofessional opinion, this series was really well made and thought out. It is full of everything a great book needs and more. It will make you laugh, cry, and scream out of anger or happiness; up to you. All I know is that I did it all.
The characters were perfectly described and very believable. It wasn't just a few characters that were terrific either but it was all of them, even the bad. You connect with all of them; Kylie, Lucas, Derek, Holiday, Miranda, Perry, Della, Daniel, Burnett, and even Mario; that was a mouth full. No this is not all of the characters but just a few that I loved.
Each character even came with their own backstory that just made you feel for them, yes you Della. C.C. Hunter even put in the time to keep including the characters and not just mention and then ditch them. Thank the lord!
Now on to the substance of the books. Each book centered around something new and something continued. Each one keeps your interest peaked and your imagination running wild. The author really knew what she was doing when she wrote this series. It is safe to say that I love everything about Shadow Falls.
I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves romance, fantasy, drama, a little mystery, and lots of action! Each book is full of it and will keep you on the edge of your seat. A perfect escape.
C.C. Hunter is a truly amazing author and I wish I had the money to buy the rest of the books revolving around the main series. I also can't wait to read her new book The Mortician's Daughter: One Foot in the Grave!

P.S. I emailed C.C. Hunter one time and she actually responded and I was the happiest person in the world that day. She was really nice and even gave me some writing advice.
